Corps Community Center
The Harbor Light Corps Community Center on the new Freedom Center campus will bring an array of community programs and services to Humboldt Park. Corps community centers are The Salvation Army’s key worship and service locations, which feature after-school and summer educational and recreational activities for youth, counseling, food pantries and more. They also serve as a gateway to a broad variety of social services, programs and support available throughout The Salvation Army, such as help feeding their families, emergency assistance, substance abuse rehabilitation services, case management services and more.
Programs and services offered by corps community centers are specific to the needs of the communities in which they are located and, thus, may differ from center to center. The Salvation Army is currently holding focus groups and town hall meetings with residents and organizations in the community surrounding the new campus to determine their program and service needs.
However, all corps community centers have something to offer people of all ages—from children, to parents to seniors. The new corps community center will feature a gymnasium, classrooms, a computer lab and a chapel, which can also function as a multi-purpose space for performances and events.
Salvation Army corps community centers also offer a church community and house of worship with Sunday services, ministry, fellowship, Bible study, Sunday school and opportunities for choral and instrumental spiritual expression.
The programs and services of the corps community center are available to people of all faiths, without discrimination – regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation – according to their need and the capacity of The Salvation Army to help.
